Silver Jewellery Hallmark
Intro
Silver is a mixture of 92.5% Silver and 7.5% other metals. This other metal is usually copper but can be rhodium or other precious metal. Within the UK there is a hallmark standard which all appropriate Silver Jewellery must adhere to, to be classed as 925 Sterling Silver Jewellery. We at Silver Gems Jewellery want to assure you that all our Silver Jewellery products are 925 Sterling Silver and are appropriately hallmarked, at the Edinburgh Assay Office.
There are 4 Assay office centres around the UK Edinburgh, London, Birmingham, and Sheffield. We at Silver Gems Jewellery use the Edinburgh Assay office to show our products are 925 Sterling Silver.
Hallmark Stamp
The Edinburgh Assay office produces the following 925 Sterling Silver Stamps. Please note the stamp is extremely small and will be required to be viewed under a magnifying glass if you are looking to see the Jewellery Stamp. Also only Silver Jewellery greater than 7.78g requires this stamp. Not all jewellery we sell requires the Edinburgh Assay stamp, but rest assured out products are all 925 Sterling Silver.
The Hallmark stamp is made up of 3 parts.
Part 1 The Sponsor’s or Maker’s Mark
Within the UK this mark consists of at least two letters within a shield. No two marks are the same.

Part 2 Purity Mark
This mark indicates the purity of the Silver Jewellery. In this case all our jewellery is marked with the '925' stamp.

Part 3 The Assay office Mark
The Edinburgh Assay office mark is a castle.

Below is an example of one fo our jewellery picese with a Edinburgh Assay Office Stamp.
